Day 474~481: Friday, January 1 ~ Friday, January 8, 2016

I did not have a lot of time at home this trip. After arriving in Olympia on December 22 I got to enjoy the holidays with all my family. On January 2 in the evening I got to attend my daughter and son in laws’ company party. They have held the annual yearly kickoff party every year for the past 4 years but this is the first time I have been there to attend. I was a very proud father seeing both my beautiful daughters shine at this event. In made the whole visit home worthwhile.

I also took a day and went up to Seattle to visit with Nomad Roy’s parents. It was really great catching up with them. I’m sure they were missing having Roy home for the holidays.

On the morning of the 8th after attending my Rotary Club meeting I headed off to the airport for my flight to Buenos Aires.

Day 482~504: Saturday, January 9 ~ Sunday, January 31, 2016

I arrived in Argentina in the dead of summer. Every day was in the 30’s and a lot of sunshine. In fact I don’t think it rained more than about 10 minutes the whole of January. I immediately saw my doctor upon getting to Buenos Aires to consult with him about my leg. He asked me to see how it was after 3 weeks and then see him again.

My left leg was still much weaker than my right leg so I thought this was finally an opportunity to sit still for several weeks and work on strengthening the left leg. I started going to the gym every day including spinning class 5 days a week, sometimes even twice a day. The spinning class did wonders for my left leg and I was definitely noticing a difference after 3 weeks of effort.

In the meantime my left leg remained bad, sometimes not being able to hardly walk. Spinning was actually easier on my leg than walking. I was coming to the conclusion that something had to be done.

During January I also spent time taking Spanish language classes and studied some on my own as well. I am not sure how much good it did but I actually am at a point where I can communicate some basic things.
