Travel photography brings the Manic Nomads Adventure to life. We’ve been traveling the world taking pictures and video along the way in the hopes of sharing it with others. You are here so if you stay a while and enjoy what we have to share, then we have accomplished our mission. If you like something you see please be sure to let us know. It would make our day.
Photography
I travel with a Sony a7s camera, 24mm~70mm lens, and a 70mm~200mm zoom lens. When I started traveling in 2014 the Sony a7s was brand new and was the lightest full-frame DSLR camera on the market. Since every ounce makes a difference when traveling for long periods of time it was the perfect camera for me. It came with its standard 24mm~70mm lens which I use for probably 75% of my shots.
After a year of starting my travels I had confirmed to myself the joy and satisfaction I get from travel photography. It didn’t hurt getting great feedback from friends and family on my pictures I posted to Facebook.
With my new love of photography and my frustration of not being able to get many of the shots I wanted I sprung for a 70mm~200mm zoom lens. This was a major commitment not only because of the expense of the lens but also due to the weight of such a lens. This thing is by no means easy to carry around. Traveling mostly by motorcycle it was not as big a deal but with the increasing amount of travel I am doing by backpack it is definitely a luxury item in my backpack. At the same time I just love taking it out of the bag and having a good time with it.
GoPro
Of course who could go on an adventure travel journey these days and not take along a GoPro camera. In 2014 the GoPro Hero 3+ Black was the best thing going so that is what I got. I have a lot more GoPro video than I have been able to share to date simply because of the time it takes to edit the video and then upload it to YouTube.
We’ve got tons of video of roads we’ve traveled on our motorcycles and hope someday to get it all edited and uploaded to share. We also have a lot of adventure video showing off all the fun and exciting things there are to do around the world.
By the way, if anyone from GoPro is reading this, I could really use a GoPro Hero 6 so please contact me!
Drone
I finally broke down and bought myself a DJI Mavic Pro drone for Christmas, 2017. This drone has awesome specs and truly is small enough to fit in a backpack. It was a really hard decision to make in getting the drone because even as small and lightweight as it is, it still takes up very valuable real-estate in my already packed backpack. I think it will be worthwhile and I am really excited to use it in all the places I will travel to in 2018. I will share what is sure to be amazing sights to everyone following the Manic Nomads.
